What’s your job title?
Part II Architectural Assistant
Why do you do what you do?
Growing up with copious amounts of Lego and a knack for drawing buildings, going into Architecture always felt like the right thing for me.
Throughout my studies and work, the importance of applying the most sustainable of building practices and being mindful to both our landscapes and communities has always been at the forefront of any project I had the privilege of working on – though the Lego has now been swapped for the laser cutter and 3D printer!
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about the continual improvement of our urban environments and cities, and how we can use existing spaces and structures to reverse harmful planning policies and revitalise our cities and communities.
I was lucky to spend a summer at the University of Amsterdam investigating Placemaking strategies, working as part of a passionate group of individuals to learn about and propose strategies for how we design our public spaces for the benefit of all – an area which I hope to bring into my work at BMJ Architects.
Can you share some of your accomplishments with us?
I gained both my BA(Hons) and DipArch from the Glasgow School of Art. My Bachelor thesis which investigated design strategies for using the spaces underneath the M8 in Glasgow to reconnect our city’s communities at a pedestrian level, was featured in the New Glasgow Society’s 2023 edition of their ‘Imagine Glasgow’ exhibition.
What's the best career advice you were given?
“Just Keep Drawing” – the first piece of advice I was ever given by an architecture tutor. No problem can remain unsolved so long as we keep putting pen to paper.
What do you do outside of the studio?
I love to travel as often as possible, playing strategy games such as SimCity, as well as contributing to my growing collection of model aircraft.
