Dyson I-lab

A showcase thinklab-type workspace

The Dyson School of Engineering I3-Lab, set up to advance the Circular Economy, is based in the Royal College of Science building at Imperial’s South Kensington Campus. The old Exam Hall of this Victorian building, which has housed scientific laboratories for over a 100 years has now been meticulously restored, adding a touch of historic charm to this cutting-edge research facility.

The space was previously the Barton Laboratory, a 1950’s organic chemistry laboratory, now transformed into the Dyson I3-Lab - an agile working, think-lab type workspace with flexible AV enabled presentation, collaboration & showcase areas capable of welcoming and impressing the ‘movers and shakers’, key industry and political decision makers visiting the space.

We led the Design Team from feasibility to completion for the project with particular attention paid to sustainable product selections, upgrade of fabric performance, maximising natural light and minimising overheating. Designing in acoustic and environmental solutions to ensure comfort of the working environment and presentation clarity were critical to the success of the space requiring full participation of the Design Team and Users.
