STEM - Clinical Skills & Simulation Centre
Replacing the ACCESS unit with a new Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre
Our team delivered a new Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre to replace the ACCESS unit currently located within the Cheyne Wing of King’s College Hospital. Intended for pre-registration Nursing & Midwifery and MBBS students, the objective was to provide a high-quality, seamless learning environment for both structured and independent learning, that will meet the needs of students and provide excellent facilities in which to be taught, learn and practice their skills. The project aims to enhance the recruitment of good quality students, address the perceived clinical facilities imbalance across the campuses, substantially improve the student experience, and in doing so positively impact the university’s National Student Survey (NSS) scores.
The centre features a reception area with limited seating and display area; office area with opening hatch to serve students; video editing suite; 3 no. skills labs with an additional debrief meeting room linked to simulation laboratory to be linked by movable walls. The movable walls will allow the spaces to be opened up in a number of different configurations depending on the activities; simulation lab; ward mock-up; flexible equipment room; sluice/prep room; teapoint opening into the main circulation corridor.
