West Coats Road

Housing for Varying Needs

West Coats Road has three levels and the design had to accommodate these differences as well as meet the requirements for barrier free living. This was achieved by allowing wheelchair access from the open courtyard to a lift that services all four floors. The Planners restricted the height of the front of the building to three floors and in order to maintain the Client’s requirement to maintain the number of units there are three one bedroom flats located within the roof area.

All the units are designed to the Standards of Housing for Varying Needs with five of the ground floor units having wet floor showers, with a number of the upper floor units being able to accommodate future adaptations to wet floor showers.

Because the development is designed specifically to meet the requirements of South Lanarkshire Council’s elderly provision, a small lounge has been included which, if required, can be converted to a two bedroom flat at a later date and there is also provision for a warden’s call system.
